  • What are Rope Shoulders? Can you do Rope Shoulders on suits? We can definetely do rope shoulders on suits and jackets as required.
Rope Shoulder is Hand stitching with strong sewing thread or rope at armhole and neckline seams makes these areas more secure. The construction process of this feature also dictates that the sleeves be mounted on top of the shoulder rather than in line with the shoulder.
This results in the sleeves creating a "rim" on the sleeve head where it is mounted on the shoulder. This rim results in a slight lift to the shoulder line towards the end of the shoulders.
Rope shoulders are the traditional method of shoulder/sleeve construction on suits and jackets. [Top]

  • What do I do? How do I order? Ordering at www.RavisTailor.com was never easier than this.
We provide extensive facilities to make your ordering of custom made clothing as easy as possible and at the same time ensure as much customization as possible in your wardrobe.
First, you would need to visit one of our catalogues or if you already know the style you like, you can use our search feature linked from the left menu of our home page to find styles that you indicated in the various pages of our website.
After selecting from one of the catalogues, you would need to select the type of garment or outfit you desire.
Upon having done this, you would be shown the different styles we custom tailor for that particular outfit.
Here you would need to choose a style.
You would then be shown the different fabrics available for that style and the colours that that fabric comes in.
Choose a colour from our pallette and the fabric selected in the selected colour, will appear in the large box above the style image.
To confirm the item and order it, add to the shopping cart.
You would then be asked if this particular peice is for yourself or for a different profile that you may have added to your account.
This is because you can also be ordering for a friend or a member of your family at the same time as yourself.
To be able to order for someone else you would need to add a measurement profile using our MyAccount feature.
If this is your first order, and it is for yourself, we will be needing your measurements at a later stage of the ordering process.
You would, after having chosen who the selected peice is for, be taken to the special request/specific instructions page.
In this page, specific details regarding the chosen custom garment would need to be indicated.
Here you can customize sleeve cuffs for example, or collars, pleats, monogrammes etc and also be able to indicate any specific instructions you might have for this custom clothing.
You would then be asked if you would like any of the accessories we have on offer to go with your custom peice.
Depending on your selection of custom garment, we may customize suggestions for complementing peices for further orders should it be of interest.
After having completed your selections, you would proceed to the check out page.
Your order totals will be visible at all times at the top right hand side of every page next to the shopping cart.
You would be asked to select priority processing if needed.
You would then be asked for your billing and shipping addresses for safe and fast delivery by international couriers.
After going through the payment submission process, you will be prompted to submit your measurements if we do not already have your measurements on file.
That´s It! Your fully customized, made to measure garment(s) will be completed in a week to ten working days and delivered right to your doorstep! [Top]

  • What is Hand Basted Full Canvas Front ? The handbasted canvas front is an extremely special feature where the canvas is attached to the front of the jacket by silk threads so that basically the top shell of the jacket actually floats on the canvas thus giving more fluidity and drape to the jacket.
This is a very time consuming and extremely labour intensive suit production method and thus very expensive to undertake.
This is the very traditional old days way of constructing the jacket or coat as opposed to the modern way of quicker construction by using high grade fusion and heat treatment.
Please note that there is a small fee for this extra premium feature and a few extra days may be required in order completion, should this option have been selected during order placement.
Please also note that this is a feature only the well trained eye can discern. Only those in the know or those who have only been wearing only the very high end Saville row suits, can tell if a suit has been made using hand basting. This is not a feature for the budget conscious nor a feature necessary for those not seeking an extra special product! [Top]

  • What is the Turnaround Time at RavisTailors? It takes around 7 to 10 working days to complete an order provided all the information required has been provided and four to six working days for transit. Our Logistics are managed by International couriers for express worldwide safe and fast door to door delivery. The order can be tracked online via the MyAccounts section of our website after the package has been shipped.
For Resellers, depending on availability, swatch sets if ordered, may take longer since if new sets are being prepared, the labour intensive project might take longer than the week to ten days standard turnaround time to complete. Exact schedules for swatch sets to resellers can only be confirmed on a case by case basis.
If fabric swatches or our Digital Catalogue are ordered, the swatches or catalogue are prepared in around three working days and shipped according to the indicated preference when submitting the swatch/catalogue requisition request.
If swatches or the catalogue are shipped by courier, delivery is in three to four working days. If however, the swatches or catalogue are ordered to be shipped by airmail, it can take four to six weeks for delivery. Regretfully no tracking facility is available to track swatch request orders that are airmailed. Couriered swatches or catalogues can be traced via the MyAccounts section as one would track custom clothing orders.
We however to send out constant updates to the progress of the orders and as soon as orders are processed, an expected dispatch date is indicated via email.
To track packages please use the tracking facility provided in the MyAccounts section in the current order details page.
In regards to the Estimated Dispatch Date, the estimated dispatch date is displayed in the MyAccounts section where your order is listed. This is the date we believe your order will be shipped depending on the current volumes of work we have on hand. However, as noted, this is but an estimated date and not an absolute date. On most instances, we are able to ship orders much before the estimated dispatch date displayed, however there can be instances when the order dispatch is delayed due to delays in order completion. Such delays can be due to fabric availability issues, delays in payment processing for the order, fabric delivery delay from our suppliers or as is the case in most instances, due to extremely specific, complicated or detailed features of the order or parts of the order. Delay can be expected if there are features in the garment that go beyond the usual details in our custom garments or if there are styling features that need additional work to incorporate. Delays can also occur if incomplete or incomprehensive information has been received in regards to an order or if there has been delays in responses received from you if we have asked for any clarifications or explanations in regards to the order. We do try our best and succeed in 99% of the time to ship orders within the estimated dispatch date specified for your order. Should an order be needed before the estimated dispatch date, please feel free to Contact us with the order number(s) and the required delivery date of the order so that we can upgrade your order to priority processing for a small fee as noted in the Priority Processing information in the FAQ sections of our site. Please note that delay of maximum of a week counted from the estimated dispatch date may be experienced during the month of April due to the annual Thai New Year Holidays. [Top]

  • What is the difference between English or British cut and Italian cut mens suits? An English or British traditional cut is where the proportions are closer to the body. These suits have slightly narrower shoulders, a closer fit at the chest and an hourglass (as close to an hourglass as possible given the wearers body structure) shape at the waist. The skirt (hip) section of the jacket flares out ever so slightly to add accecent to the waist.
An Italian cut mens suit is when the overall proportion is more like an inverted V, where the shoulders are accecented, the waist is tapered and the hips are snug and close to the body.
The British Traditional cut is ideal for a standard proportioned body structure that is not too slim nor too full. An Italian cut is more ideal for an athletic figure. Think Sean Connery (perfect figure for the British cut) and think Pierce Brosnan (great physique to carry an Italian tailored suit)! [Top]

  • What is the difference between a Suit Jacket, a Blazer and a Sports Jacket ? Sports jackets, blazers and suit jackets are pretty much the same thing except, suit jackets can have single, side or no vents while sports jackets typically should have a center vent and blazers typically have side vents.
Another difference is that while suit jackets are matched with exactly the same colour as the pants, sports jackets can be any colour and usually with a pattern such as hounds tooth or herringbone or checks and if solids, they are usually very light or very dark colours..never ´in between´ colours. Sports jackets should never be in stripes or prince of Wales checks as these are suitings.
Blazers are always solids and only in dark blue, navy, black, burgundy, dark green, red and white or ivory. Blazers must always have gold or silver buttons while sports jackets should have matching buttons as should suit jackets.
The cut of the three are pretty much similar though sports jackets can never be double breasted.
Blazers can be single or double breasteds and suits too can be single or double breasteds.
Vents are the openings on the back of the jackets. Some call it slits. Classic traditional styles usually have one vent..center vent.. at the back of the jacket.
Very traditional British or 50s and 60s style of jackets have two vents..side vents .. at the back of the jacket and more modern ´Italian cut´ slim styles have no vents at the back of the jacket in which case the hips tend to be a bit on the snug side as well. [Top]

  • What is a Peak Lapel? In a Peak lapel , the lapel rises up and beyond the collar tip so as to create a peak of sorts. Separation between the collar and the lapel in this case is less than 1 degree due to the fact that the lapel rises upwards and by default therefore runs parallel to the outer rim of the collar. The tip therefore points towards the shoulders. [Top]

  • What is an ainsley collar? An Ainsley collar is a standard necktie collar that has a 45 degree to 60 degree angle at the tie space (place closest to skin at the neck - above the neck button). This is the most common type of collar used for shirts that are worn with neck ties.
You can learn more about fabrics by visiting our Glossary pages or you can do quick Style searches using one or more criteria and keywords to help pick specific styles that you have in mind. [Top]

  • How do I best take sizes? With clothes on or without any clothes on? Ours is a very comprehensive form that can be used for all garments, including shirts, suits, pants etc.
Two dimensional measurements such as lengths, shoulder widths etc can be taken off another piece of clothing that fits well but three dimensional measurements such as chest circumference, stomach etc should be taken off the body.
Please use the video tutorials on the forms to see how best the measurements should be taken.
When taking Measurements, we would recommend a thin shirt or t-shirt and a well fitting pair of pants be worn.
Please do not take measurements wearing a jacket or jeans or shorts and other such casual clothing.
Tights, jogging suits, corsets or any other body binding garments should not be worn when taking the sizes.
For Pants and Trousers measurements, ideally the pants you wear when taking the measurements should sit exactly where you would like your custom pants to sit if these are being ordered. Bear in mind the position of the pants waist band on the waist at the sides, front and back as required when taking the measurements for the pants outseam and U-crotch.
Jacket lengths do not necessarily have to conform to the second knuckle on the thumb since some have long arms and others short arms as well as styles selected also make a difference. Ideally the standard jacket length should cover at least the buttocks at the back and the crotch in the front.
Do not take the neck size of shirts tightly or snugly. Make sure a finger is kept between the tape and the body for comfort allowance for the collar.
We do not prefer using off the rack measurements for custom clothing..for obvious reasons!
When submitting shirt sleeve lengths, do not submit half shoulder and sleeve length as sleeve length is generally understood specially in the USA. Please measure sleeve length from the top of the shoulder to the length desired as is described in the measurements forms.
For your convenience, each measurement requirement for each kind of garment is indicated using icons so that those minimal sizes get submitted as necessary, with your order. [Top]
